ISO 21500: New International Project Management Standard In Preparation

A new project management standard – ISO 21500 is being prepared by representatives of 30 countries and major PM organisations IPMA and PMI.

According to the resources, ISO 21500 will be build on existing standards. It is intended to be applicable to organizations of all sizes and sectors and will be designed for relative newcomers to project management, or as an aide-mémoire for more experienced practitioners. The standard is scheduled to be released in late 2010.

The aim is to provide generic guidance, explaining the core principles and what constitutes good practice in project management. While IPMA is contributing by its competence model, PMI provided procesess from their PMBoK which is an American National Standard.
